About The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

The second Illumination Mario movie takes the brothers off solid ground and into space, and the scale bump works. Bowser Jr. is the new antagonist this time — trying to bust his dad out of captivity — and giving the villain role to a kid adds a different energy compared to Jack Black's Bowser chewing scenery in the first film. The galaxy settings are visually gorgeous, each world popping with the kind of color and detail that makes animated movies worth seeing on a big screen.

If you saw the first Mario movie and thought "fun but shallow," this one has a bit more going on narratively. It's still a kids' movie at heart, but the sibling dynamics between Mario and Luigi get more screen time, and there are moments that land emotionally in a way the first film didn't really attempt.

Chris Pratt is back as Mario and still sounds like Chris Pratt, which you've either made peace with or you haven't. Charlie Day's Luigi gets more to do this time around, and that's a good thing.

Is It Worth Watching?

For families, this is an easy yes — it's colorful, fast-paced, and kids will love it. For adults, it's a solid popcorn movie that doesn't ask much from you. The galaxy settings are worth seeing in a cinema rather than waiting for streaming. TMDB has it at 6.9, which feels about right — it's fun, not essential, pero sulit naman for a weekend outing with the family.
